Speech Title: From Materials to Molecules- A Humble journey in Materials science
Biography: Dr. M. A. Shah has doctorial degree in Condensed Matter Physics (Materials Science) from Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi. During his 20 years of academic career within India and outside, he is credited for many initiatives at NIT Srinagar. Dr. Shah has launched Masters Programme in Physics at NIT Srinagar, making it a post graduate department, after 60 years of its establishment. He has been awarded a mega project by the Ministry of Science & Technology, New Delhi for developing Laboratory for Multi-functional Nanomaterials (LMN), besides commissioned Scanning Electron Microscope funded by World Bank way back in year 2006. In addition, he has authored three text books on Nanoscience, edited five books on contemporary aspects of nanotechnology, besides more than 100 publications in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Shah had an honour to work with prominent scientists both within and outside country and was honoured on many occasions for his dedicated work.
In collaboration with different IITs, Dr Shah is organising the series of International Conferences on “Nanotechnology for Better Living NBL" in association with many prestigious institutions across globe to handover this new technology to younger generation. He been very actively engaged in the development of many projects at National and International level and was felicitated many times. Presently, organizing INSPIRE Internship programme (P.Ms Initiative) for the bright students of the valley, which aims to attract talent for study of science at an early age. Thousands of young brains were benefited so far.
Member of many science academies and societies, Shah’s work has been cited by number of scientific reporters as well as scientific media. Visited around a dozen countries and delivered invited/key note lectures, besides being resource persons on many scientific occasions. Shah is bestowed with many good qualities including a good speaker, an excellent writer and a favorite teacher of his students, besides has many more honours, accolades and awards to narrate his profile.
